Meet the Team - Staff and Board Members

Sandra MacIntyre, Chairperson
Sandra MacIntyre became a Director of DPHS Aberdeen in October 2011. She is Communications Co-ordinator with Grampian Housing Association and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Sandra will be using her experience in public relations and marketing to promote the work of DPHS and to raise awareness, amongst stakeholders and funders, of the housing needs of people with disabilities in Aberdeen to help ensure the provision of suitable homes for both current and potential clients.


James Bain, Treasurer

Jim is a chartered accountant with more than 40 years experience mainly in the oil and gas industry in the UK and overseas. He provides accounting services and advice to DPHS and two other charities in the North East.

Councillor Jean Morrison MBE, Director
Jean Morrison was elected to Aberdeen City council in May 2012 and is, vice convener of the Council’s Housing & Environment Committee.    Jean has extensive experience of working in the Third Sector in Aberdeen which includes 27 years managing and developing SCARF, a registered charity, tackle fuel poverty and promoting  energy efficiency in the North east of Scotland.  She received an MBE for services to energy efficiency in Scotland from the Queen.

Jean has a keen interest in housing and is very much aware of disabled people‘s housing needs and will use her experience to position DPHS to become a sustainable organisation that meets the housing needs of disabled people in Aberdeen

Mike Scott, Director
Mike Scott spent almost 30 years in Local Government in Inverness, Angus and Aberdeen, nearly 25 as a Chief Officer, in various departments including Planning, Housing and Health & Social Care.  In January 2006 he took early (very early) retirement and established himself as a management consultant/interim manager and has since followed his many and varied interests.  He remains a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Mike has had a long-standing interest (nearly 30 years) in tackling fuel poverty and promoting energy efficiency and he created one of the first dedicated Energy Manager posts within Scottish Local Authorities.  He is a Company Director of SCARF (Save Cash and Reduce Fuel), and Aberdeen Heat & Power Ltd.  Mike is currently Chair of SCARF Energy Services, Aberdeen.  He has also over the last 6 years held an NHS Grampian Board appointment and he is on the Private Rented Housing Panel for Scotland. He has also during that time joined the Board of Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership (AHP), and has now been the Chair of AHP for 5 years.

Alan Thomson, Director
Alan Worked for Aberdeen City Council for 36 year and retired in May 2009. He worked as the Liaison Officer dealing with all housing and housing related enquiries for the elected members, members of the public and members of parliament. Alan is currently working for Home Energy Scotland who are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by the Energy Saving Trust along with Scarf as an energy adviser. Alan was a former Justice  of the peace  for nine years within the Aberdeen district court. His hobbies are going to the gym, reading and gardening.

Alan McLellan, Member
Alan is a Quantity Surveyor with 25 years experience. He also has a post graduate qualification in management. He was diagnosed with M.S in 1993. He is not currently able to work full time as a result of disability from M.S, but devotes some of his time to charitable work.

Dave Black, Member
Dave Black joined the DPHS board in 2015.  He is currently the Outreach Worker at the Minority Ethnic Housing Project, which provides housing advice to minority ethnic communities in Aberdeen City and Shire.  Dave’s previous work was also in the equalities, working at Grampian Regional Equality Council between 2010 and 2014, mainly with Gypsy and Traveller communities in Aberdeenshire. 

Paul McMenemy, Member

Dorothy Askew, Adviser, Community Care Strategy Officer, Housing & Environment Service, Aberdeen City Council
Dorothy is employed by Aberdeen City Council as Community Care Strategy
Officer. Her work involves development of the Community Care Housing Strategy and other local health and housing strategies. She works closely with colleagues in social work and with housing providers to identify and meet the housing need of people with disabilities.

Shirley Finlayson, Development Officer and Secretary
Shirley is currently the only employee at DPHS and has been in post since 2004. Shirley has established a good working relationship with local housing providers, care providers and disabled clients. She is member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and is qualified in Level 4 Certificate of Housing (Distinction).
